Control the border by January 1, 2014 and establish English as the official language of government; reform the legal visa system, and make it much easier to deport criminals and gang members while making it easier for law abiding visitors to come to the US.
The United States must control its border. It is a national security imperative.
Controlling the border is a matter of resources and will. Every nation has the right to control its border. Historically, every country that has been determined to control their border has been able to do so.
As Americans, we can accomplish unimaginable feats when we have the resources and the will. The United States won World War II in 3 years and 8 months. In the 44 months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States mobilized its resources to defeat Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, and Imperial Japan.
Unfortunately, we haven’t brought any sense of urgency to controlling our border – even as a drug-fueled civil war now rages in Mexico.
In October 1986, Ronald Reagan wrote in his diary that he was signing the Simpson-Mazzoli immigration reform bill because it was “high time we regained control of our borders & this bill will do this."
Today, a quarter century later, we still have not achieved President Reagan’s goal and expectation.
This bill will waive every obstacle to controlling the border and would shift resources to achieve virtually 100% control by January 1, 2014. If necessary, we would move one-half of the 23,000 Washington-area Department of Homeland Security bureaucrats to the Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona borders.
At the same time we are controlling the border we should make it easier for honest people to visit America honestly.
Our current visa system is inefficient, expensive, and inhospitable and drives people away from visiting the United States. Americans and visitors deserve a system that works.
Americans will benefit from a fairer, more secure, more efficient system, which will ensure that foreign visitors, students, workers and job-creators alike provide as many positive benefits as possible to our economy and society.
We want legal visitors for our tourist attractions to increase the number of American jobs.
We want the best legal students in our universities and colleges, and then staying to create American jobs.
We want legal businessmen and businesswomen visiting the United States easily and comfortably so they can do more business in the United States and create more American jobs.
We want potential investors and entrepreneurs to visit America easily so they can create American jobs.
Finally, we want family members to find it easy to visit legally for holidays and family events to strengthen the human bonds that we Americans cherish.
At the same time, it is currently too difficult to deport criminals and gang members.
When someone is here illegally and is dangerous, there should be expedited procedures to remove them from the United States as rapidly as possible.
We can apply modern management techniques to create a more accurate, more secure, less expensive, and more hospitable visa system.
Combining border control with visa modernization makes it harder to be illegal and easier to be legal and that is a big step forward for America.

Comment by Susan M Emerick on April 3, 2012 at 11:56pm I'm with you Tony!!! I'm from a family of farmers which we not able to Will their lands to their children because of the inheritance issues. One family was able to bystep this by forming a corporation wherein the kids were on the "board" therefore allowing the ease of transfer to the generation which followed. The other problem is that our small farmers are aging. Our youth doesn't go into farming much anymore.
Comment by Tony Norris on April 3, 2012 at 7:22am I have a great idea. How about we stop the farm subsidies which go mainly to the Ag conglomerates instead of the small farmers. And end estate taxes which put an end to family farms. How about letting the small farmers write the farm policy. I'm sure they have solutions to wean us off the nanny state policies that handcuff the American farmers. Instead of a bunch of congressman and bureaucrats who are in the pockets of Archer Daniels Midland and the other monster Ag conglomerates. We broke up the oil monopolies, but we subsidize the Ag monopolies. In an open, honest marketplace, the small farmers can thrive.
But our Mexican brothers across the border have no voice in Washington. So ADM and the other AG monopolies got to write NAFTA. ADM made billions, and Mexico lost over a million farmers. We call them illegal aliens today. ADM got billions. And the rest of America got an immigration problem. Time to change NAFTA so it is a win win solution. As it is now, NAFTA just makes ADM rich, while US workers and Mexican farmers lost their jobs. NAFTA should benefit all, not just giant Ag monopolies and special interests.
Comment by Susan M Emerick on April 2, 2012 at 10:44pm I'd like to see the same justice for our own farmers. The small farmer is being driven out of business!!!
Comment by Tony Norris on April 2, 2012 at 6:07pm In 1986, Reagan saw this was a terrible problem so he negotiated with congress to grant amnesty in exchange for closing the border. The democrat congress jumped on the amnesty, and have yet to close the border. No more amnesty -NO WAY!!!!!. close the border, issue a 18 month temporary greencard, and then imprison anyone who hires illegals after that. The illegals will deport themselves. Issue additional greencards if needed, and allow those here illegally to apply - behind all those who applied legally. Move 20 million jobs from China to Mexico. So the illegals can go home to a job. We ha armies of poor people already here, we do not need to import anymore. If we have low paying jobs, give them to the guys on welfare. And end Federal Welfare. We should have a robust immigrant influx every year. The best and the brightest from all over the globe, not 90% from the unemployed poor of one nation. Only those who want to be part of America should be allowed in. Not those who want to make the American Southwest part of Mexico. We live in freedom. They come from a third world hell hole. I love immigrants from every nation, European or third world hell hole. But I'm sick and tired of the immigrants who come here and want to make the American Southwest part of the hell hole they just fled from. They don't bother to try to figure out why we live in freedom and prosperity, they just vote for the Democrat who promises the most goodies from Washington, or will vote to make America like the hell hole they just fled. If you can't love America and try to make her better, GO HOME!!!!
And get US corn out of the Mexican market. Major US corporations flood mexican markets with cheap GMO corn bankrupting Mexican farmers who can't compete. What is it - one million illegals are mexican farmers who lost their farm because of Big Ag conglomerates? And who get the farms? Subsidiaries of the same Ag conglomerates? Let's have some justice for the small mexican farmers.
Comment by Susan M Emerick on April 2, 2012 at 6:05pm My only concern is that if this law is to be changed, that it be written very narrowly so there is no chance that some attorney can twist the language around to allow these "legal citizens" any rights outside the fact that they can live here legally, work and pay taxes. Nothing further. No voting rights even though the argument will be that they pay taxes and therefore should be represented through their voting rights. I see this as a very slippery slope.
Comment by Tony Norris on February 29, 2012 at 7:21pm Susan, I kinda agree with you. As a high schooler in 1977, I could see that America was doomed if the conservatives didn't try to take back education and the media. I could see our high schools were churning out armies of brainwashed socialist morons, and the media has kept them ignorant ever since. The Libs know that whoever controls the schools controls the future. I never understood why a highschool student could see that clear as day, but the conservative have not caught on to this day. I don't mind a lot of legal hispanic immigrants, I just want them to understand why our country is so wonderful to live in and why the one they are fleeing from is a hell hole. So they will fight to keep America a great country, and not elect Democrats who are out to destroy our country.
Comment by Ronald A. Newcomb on February 28, 2012 at 5:16pm Oddly, the far left is with us on this point but because the illegals pollute and use natural resources! If we do not control the border we will continue to e overrun by people leaching off the social systems. But no one wants to do this because of the backlash. Who has a spine?
Comment by Susan M Emerick on February 27, 2012 at 9:58pm Tony, then who is going to keep an eye on those teachers? Over time the left will wiggle their way into that program just as they have done in our Universities!!! This should be a private project not connected to any government program. Each immigrant should have to pay for the course, just as they do through the citizen process (which isn't cheap). They maybe, maybe it could be kept "true".
Comment by Tony Norris on February 27, 2012 at 9:27pm And nobody should be allowed to become a citizen without taking a full year of college level classes including: Milton Friedman economics. It should also include History of western civilization and US history with concentration on how socialism has failed miserably whenever tried starting with he Mayflower colony. In addition, they should study a year long course on the constitution and why it was written the way it was, and why it is the best governing document ever produced.
If you cannot understand why the US is the greatest country in history, then you should not be allowed to become a citizen. Much less be allowed to vote.
I'm so sick and tired of people coming here to escape from the horrors of some third world hell hole, and then voting in Democrats to office who are trying to turn my country into a third world hell hole.
Comment by Susan M Emerick on February 27, 2012 at 3:53am J, two comments. I really like your idea about moving Chinese jobs to Mexico, but security will be a huge problem. Could be solved by your second thought...train 'em to be military!! I've come to believe the Brotherhood is everywhere. They've had years to work on it and we've only just begun!!!
That probally doesn't make sense- but go see Act of Valor- & it will !!! Good Movie .....
Muslim Brotherhood Has Infiltrated Conservative Movement! | Conservative Byte http://shar.es/g4w4Y
I agree with most of this >>>>but the Mexican government is not our friend. I say, move 20 million jobs from THE CHINESE over to Mexico. That way the Mexicans will have a job to go home to. We should try to make the Mexican people our friends. It is the height of foolishness to antagonize a nation of well over 100 million with whom we share such a huge border. Robust trade would be good for all of us, and moving 20 million jobs from our enemies, the Chinese, is a freaking no-brainer.
Why don't they take the Mexican Undocumented Workers who are Caught & Train them to Become Border Security or Policemen -Train them in Texas & AZ then Send them to Work in Mexico-- Send Calderon Trained Enforcement Help - Give them 2-4 years of Service in Mexican Law Enforcement - & if they still want to come Back & have a Honorable Record they get a Chance to become Legal with 2 Family Sponsors Here. If they Gave them National Guard type Training & Housing & Min Wage- If would be a Win Win It's Crazy but it would Solve a Problem That Mexico Isn't Solving-- I live in AZ & Yes We Still have a Problem here--The Mexican People Are not out Enemies but the Govt there is Out of Ideas - & they Can't keep Sheriffs or Police- They need to Build some Mini Armies to Combat the Gangs
Comment by Tracy Trent on February 26, 2012 at 7:54pm JUST TELL EVRYBODY AT GAS STATIONS ,WAL MART ,RESTUARANTS WORK ,TALK ABOUT HOW HIGH GAS IS I GOT 3 MORE PEOPLE YESTERDAY AT THE VOTING PRECINCT IN TENN. DIDNT EVEN KNOW NEWT WAS FOR LOWER GAS THEY ONLY HAE ABC,AND NBC ETC...JUST VOTE NEWT HE'LL HANDLE ENFORCING PLANS AS THEY ARE WE HAVE TO TALK HIM ,UP HELP GET HIM IN FIRST THEN WE CAN OFFER IDEAS HE'LL STILL COMMUNICATE WITH AMERICAN PEOPLE!!
Comment by Tony Norris on February 26, 2012 at 7:46pm Look, We don't need to deport anyone. Just imprison anyone who hires illegals, and the illegals will deport themselves. We all know that the Mexican government is one of the most corrupt banana republics in the world. and the Mexicans come here to find a job because the socialist government there prevents job formation. The Mexican people are not our enemies, but the Mexican government is not our friend.
Comment by Jo Ann Brown on February 26, 2012 at 6:49pm They said on our news that they might be military equipment at the border about time.
Comment by Jo Ann Brown on February 26, 2012 at 6:48pm some of the big companies use illegals and dont care they pay them less than standard wages and create 3rd world jobs inside the usa I see everyday people being hired for odd jobs like raking pulling weeds, stuff even a child can do. How about these guys around here giving a real job to these people instead of classifying them as temporary labor??? They use them every day of the year and then the people who are legal cant even get this type job
Comment by Jo Ann Brown on February 26, 2012 at 6:43pm As far as too many to send back its not hard to load up a school bus of illegals and drive them across. It would be rather easy
Comment by Jo Ann Brown on February 26, 2012 at 6:41pm NM Governor Martinez still was not able to discontinue drivers licenses for illegals. Anyone here that can call the Senators of New Mexico and ask to have them terminated. It is impossible for me to fanthom how a corrupt Governor Richardson got so much through.
