Great Wins for Gun Owners in Arkansas, Kentucky
GOA Impacting Races Across the Country
Dear Gun Rights Supporter:
One week after Richard Mourdock’s defeat of anti-gun incumbent Senator Dick Lugar in Indiana, the pro-gun community is celebrating tremendous victories in U.S. House races in Arkansas and Kentucky.
Tom Cotton, who was supported by GOA in his race, won a narrow victory in Arkansas’ 4th Congressional District.
Tom is a Harvard Law graduate who, after 9/11, put his law practice on hold and served five years as an infantryman in the Army. A decorated combat veteran and constitutional scholar, Tom will be among the strongest Second Amendment defenders in Washington.
In Kentucky’s 4th District, Gun Owners of America was the only national gun group to support Thomas Massie in the Republican primary.
“I am proud to have the endorsement of Gun Owners of America,” said Massie. “Politicians often give lip service to the Second Amendment but then go off to Washington and vote to restrict gun ownership. I will always stand alongside groups like GOA to protect our rights.”
We need leaders who have studied and understand the proper role of government, and who can effectively fight radical leftist politicians. Gun owners gained two such fighters in Tuesday’s primaries.
Of course, both candidates still need to get through the general election, and GOA will be communicating with Second Amendment supporters in these districts about where all the candidates stand on the gun issue.
We are also going state by state to get rid of the people who threaten gun rights and put fresh faces into the U.S. House and Senate, and in state legislatures as well.
This is a huge task, but I know I can count on you to help GOA get the facts about candidates into the hands of hundreds of thousands of voters, and then to mobilize gun owners in this Fall.
Sincerely,
Tim Macy
Vice-Chairman

The state of Florida is ground zero in the battle to protect your right to defend yourself with a firearm inside of and outside of your home.
Florida Governor Rick Scott established a "task force" to look at the state's Stand Your Ground law in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting, even though all the facts of the case are not yet known.
Please consider signing this petition, and forward it to others so they have an opportunity to sign it.

Gun Owners of America
Battle Raging on Capitol Hill
with regard to Concealed Carry
If you have ever questioned whether your emails and phone calls make a difference, then stop wondering.
Your activism on the concealed carry bills in the U.S. Senate is doing a bang-up job!
Gun Owners of America has been working with the sponsors of the soon-to-be-introduced Thune-Vitter reciprocity bill, and we can report that there are at least 15 cosponsors on the bill!
By contrast, the Begich-Manchin Democrat compromise bill (S. 2188) has only one additional cosponsor.
Senators John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) plan to introduce their bill early next week -- and thus, their bill won’t receive a number until then.
But we need a whole new round of emails to get even more original cosponsors on their bill. Again, the Thune-Vitter legislation will not only allow permit holders to carry out-of-state, but NON-PERMIT HOLDERS from constitutional carry states, as well.
Sadly, we have been receiving emails from our grassroots activists showing that the NRA is taking aim at our position on these two bills.
Hence, we would like to make the following points in order to prevent any confusion.
1. NRA POSITION: “There is no Thune-Vitter bill because one hasn’t been introduced. Therefore, it is impossible to ‘support the Thune-Vitter bill rather than the Democrat-sponsored S. 2188.’”
GOA RESPONSE: As stated above, Senators Thune and Vitter are currently gaining cosponsors before the actual introduction of their bill. This is a common practice that legislators use in order to make a “big splash” with a large number of original cosponsors. For anyone who works on Capitol Hill to claim ignorance of this process is, quite honestly, laughable.
2. NRA POSITION: The Begich-Manchin bill “does not undermine or abandon permitless carry. Groups suggesting this are simply lying or incapable of reading the bill. Residents of Vermont, or any other ‘Constitutional Carry’ state, who wish to carry out of state could simply obtain a nonresident permit (just as they do now) and enjoy the benefits of S. 2188.”
GOA RESPONSE: Subsection (c)(2)(B) of S. 2188 requires that anyone benefiting from carry reciprocity possess “a valid license or permit that ... permits the individual to carry a concealed firearm.”
In other words, S. 2188 fails to protect NON-PERMIT HOLDERS in constitutional carry states -- and these gun owners represent the MAJORITY of law-abiding citizens who can carry.
There are currently five states where citizens can carry without the government’s permission: Vermont, Alaska, Arizona, Wyoming, and most of Montana. And the South Dakota Governor currently has a bill sitting on his desk to enable citizens to carry guns without prior government permission.
In addition to all of this, there are eleven states which are seriously considering “constitutional carry” legislation: Colorado, Iowa, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Virginia.
Many more states will move in this direction after the beginning of the year.
But what if the federal government holds up an enormous “carrot” for pro-gun activists to obtain permits, irrespective of whether their states require it? The answer is that the incentive for these activists to push for “constitutional carry” will vanish.
S. 2188 will snub non-permit holders in “constitutional carry” states, while the Thune-Vitter bill will grant reciprocity to them.
Unless one thinks that New York’s crime problems result from “vicious killers” from Vermont, Alaska and the other constitutional carry states, then there shouldn’t be a problem enabling average citizens to carry concealed without permits. After all, criminals don’t line up for carry licenses.
3. NRA POSITION: “S. 2188 would not ... impose national standards.”
GOA RESPONSE: Well, GOA never said it did. And thankfully, this is an issue where GOA can claim victory, as previous reciprocity bills over the past several years have included such “national standards.” But this is just another example of how your activism makes a real difference!
Both Begich and Manchin HAVE YET TO CAST A PRO-GUN VOTE during this Congress. (You can check this out by viewing their voting records on the GOA website.) So why would we trust them to do the right thing on gun legislation? Is this just an attempt to reelect Democrats and keep Harry Reid in power?
ACTION: Please click here to urge your U.S. Senators to cosponsor the Thune-Vitter bill over the Begich-Manchin bill.

Gun Owners of America
Another Obama Nominee Confirmed to the Bench
Dear Friend of the Second Amendment,
Last week, we alerted you to a radical anti-gun nominee President Obama named to the federal bench, Jesse Furman.
To no one’s surprise, Furman is cut from the same judicial cloth as other Obama nominees such as Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.
For instance, in an article published a number of years ago—but from which Furman has not distanced himself—he writes that: “Probably the best explanation for the amount of violent crime in the United States is its fascination with guns.”
GOA members flooded the Senate with emails, and many Senators voted against Furman. But Majority Leader Harry Reid kept every single Democrat in lock-step with the Obama agenda, and Furman was confirmed to a lifetime appointment to the bench on a vote of 62-34.
Republicans Jon Kyl and John McCain (AZ), Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander (TN), Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe (ME), Jeff Sessions (AL), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Scott Brown (MA), and Lindsey Graham (SC) joined all Democrats in voting for Furman.
This vote serves to highlight the difficulty in protecting the courts from anti-Second Amendment nominees who come before the Congress. Obama will continue to nominate far left gun grabbers, and Harry Reid will be his go-to guy for confirmation votes.
And if Obama wins a second term, his agenda will become only more brazen. That’s why a top goal of GOA in 2012 is to help elect as many truly pro-gun friends as we can to the U.S. Senate.
It is crucial that Harry Reid does not retain the gavel next year. But it is not enough to just elect members of the opposing party. We need to elect strong candidates who understand the Constitution and who will not bow to pressure from the White House—whoever the occupant may be—or from the leadership of either party in the Congress.
Thank you for standing with GOA as we fight these battles on a daily basis.
Sincerely,
Tim Macy
Vice Chairman

IAPCAR
International Association for the Protection of
Civilian Arms Rights.
Barack Obama wants to control your guns! That's the bottom line.
He wants government regulation to hold you hostage to his version of the Second Amendment! Using the United Nations as his "cover," he wants to have ownership of your guns; and even eliminate gun ownership in America.
The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution reads: "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Yet, Barack Obama is the most ANTI-GUN president in the history of the United States of America! And he is going to force the anti-gun treaty within the United Nations! Yes, the United Nations is determined---backed by the Obama administration---to take away your gun rights---GLOBALLY!
The United Nations wants to take away guns from EVERYONE in the world, so we might live in supposed "peace and harmony." It may seem crazy, but those are the plans passionately devised for you by the Obama White House!
If Barack Obama is elected to a second term, it will literally "break the back" of the Second Amendment. That's why your action is so very important today---to urge each United States Senator to OPPOSE the UN Small Arms Treaty!
Please CLICK HERE to FAX every single United States Senator to let them know that you OPPOSE the United Nations Small Arms Treaty!
Following the Obama administration "anti-gun textbook," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced that the Obama Administration will be operating along side the United Nations to pass a new "Small Arms Treaty." This treaty is camouflaged as a supposed International Arms Control Treaty to fight against radicalism, terrorists and global mob bosses. The United Nations Small Arms Treaty is in fact a mammoth, WORLDWIDE gun control sham aimed directly at you!
The sovereignty of the United States is at stake!
The Constitution of the United States is at stake!
Your gun rights are at stake!
Obama and the United Nations both want to pass a treaty where YOUR guns would be BANNED and CONFISCATED!!
...IN DIRECT OPPOSITION to our own United States Constitution!
The eventual goal of this UN Small Arms Treaty is to catalog, BAN, and seize firearms owned by private citizens like you!
This lines up perfectly with President Obama's anti-gun agenda!
The right to bear arms derives from the human right of self-defense, and therefore is an individual right.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) that "the inherent right of self-defense has been central to the Second Amendment right," and that the Second Amendment protects a pre-existing individual right to keep and bear arms, without regard to a person's relationship to a militia, including "the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation."
But Obama wants to take your rights on guns and surrender them to the United Nations, contrary to the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution!
That, in itself, is ILLEGAL!
However, if this Small Arms Treaty is passed by the United Nations, and ratified by the United States Senate, it would most assuredly force the United States---and YOU---to:
PROHIBIT the sale and individual ownership of all semi-automatic weapons; as well as seize and demolish all "unapproved" personal firearms.
Establish a universal gun database, setting the stage for unrestrained gun ban!
Legislate stricter certifying conditions, forcing honest American citizens to cut through mountains of government paperwork and fees just to own a firearm lawfully.
In spite of their intentions against us, the United States continues to pay the "lion's share" of the United Nations' budget. Yes, your tax dollars at work! Yet, the control of the U.N. tends to be by the despots of this world---and their allies...against the United States! Yet, we still have veto power.
We are helping to make sure that your freedoms to keep and bear arms will not be infringed. But, Obama wants to have complete GUN CONTROL!
We cannot permit him to have his way!
