Newt: "I do think people need to draw a distinction from Romney as frontrunner, which he is, and Romney as inevitable which he may not be. And I think it is very dangerous for Governor Romney and his campaign to assume that he's the nominee. It sort of shows no respect for the voters of North Carolina, West Virginia, Indiana, or for that matter today. I mean he's off making his first quote "general election speech" while voters in five states are voting in primaries. I think that's—for a guy who's only half way to the nomination—if you count the number of votes he has—he's about half way to the nomination. I think that's a little presumptuous."
Interviewer, "you think it sends the wrong message to those states?"
Newt: "I think it sends the wrong message to the voters. It's a message that says the voters don't matter. Well, I think voters do matter. We're going to be campaigning all across North Carolina because we believe voters matter. I think it is very important for the voters to be the people who decide, not the News media and not the campaign consultants. Our expectation under any circumstance, we're going to be at every single event we've outlined this week and our expectation is we're going to continue to campaign until Romney gets to 1144 delegates. I have always said, "if he earns 1144, he has earned the nomination. No one has an obligation to give it to him."
Newt: "...look Barack Obama had the skills necessary to become president and he's a disaster. The question is: what are his plans—what are his commitments—what are his values? Does he have a vision that would lead America to a successful future?
"in order to be the nominee, he has to get 1,144 uncontested delegates. He has not done that yet," —Newt Gingrich
Our families deserve more than rhetoric & talking points. America needs Newt in 2012! Even though Newt will suspend his campaign Wednesday, ndiana, North Carolina, West Virginia, Nebraska, Oregon, Arkansas, Kentucky, Texas, California, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, South Dakota, and Utah can still VOTE 4 Newt the REAL Reagan Conservative. #Conservatives can beat O with a true conservative at the Tampa Convention. Show #RNC elites they don't pick our nominee. VOTE NEWT in the remaining states!
Romney Delaware Endorser Switches His Support to Gingrich
Dover, DE - Newt 2012 announced today that Hans Reigle, Chairman of the Kent County Republican Party, is switching his support from Mitt Romney to Newt Gingrich. Reigle has also served as the Mayor of Wyoming, Delaware and over 20 years in the United States Air Force.
"I previously endorsed Governor Romney, but since then Newt is the only candidate who has shown a willingness to meet and talk with Delaware voters for more than hour," said Hans Reigle. "Over the past few weeks I've listened to Newt discussing his vision for achieving $2.50 gasoline, balancing the budget, and shrinking the size of government and it is exactly the kind of positive agenda we need for Delaware and America. I'm proud to switch my support to Newt Gingrich and cast my vote for him next Tuesday."
"Hans is a dedicated Republican who understands the importance of local parties. I'm honored he has decided to join our team," said Newt Gingrich. "I look forward to working with Hans to share our positive message of job creation and lower gasoline prices across the state of Delaware ahead of Tuesday's primary."
Gingrich is campaigning in Delaware this week in advance of the state's April 24th primary.
Correctional Officers Association of Delaware President Geoff Klopp Endorses Newt Gingrich
Dover, DE – Correctional Officers Association of Delaware (COAD) President Geoff Klopp endorsed Newt Gingrich for president during a joint appearance at the group’s meeting this morning.
“It was refreshing to have Newt appear before COAD and hear the concerns of Delaware’s working families,” said Geoff Klopp. “He is the only Republican presidential candidate who has taken the time to listen to our union members and he has earned my vote. I’m proud to endorse Newt Gingrich in the Republican Primary and I encourage every hard-working union member in our state to join me in voting for him next Tuesday.”
“I was delighted to receive Geoff’s endorsement and for the opportunity to talk with COAD’s union members and hear their concerns,” Newt Gingrich. “I’m committed to meeting with citizens from every background in Delaware and across the country to develop a solutions-oriented agenda that get us back to a full employment economy, an affordable price of gasoline, and a limited government that moves power out of Washington and back to the states.”
Gingrich campaigned in Delaware yesterday and today in advance of the state's April 24th primary.
